Therefore PENTASA® continuously delivers mesalazine throughout the entire colon at all enteral pH conditions2


PENTASA® formulations consist of hundreds of ethyl cellulose coated microgranules, which pass through the stomach into the duodenum.
These spread throughout the small and large bowel releasing mesalazine in a time-dependent manner, independent of intraluminal pH.1,2,12-16

Other mesalazine formulations are pH-dependent, releasing 5-ASA from the mid to distal ileum downward where the pH is ≥6.1-11
